ClefScape is a music-learning platform, not a music app. We build instrument-specific tools that take the full arc of a musician's development seriously — from first note to professional fluency — one instrument at a time. Praxis Saxophone is the first.
Why a platform, not an app
Instrument learning has a structural problem: the tools that help beginners don't grow with you. Once you've internalized the basics, the gamified apps stop being honest about where you actually are, and private lessons alone can't give you feedback between sessions.
A platform — rather than a standalone app — lets us build tools that follow the musician's trajectory over time, share a coaching model across instruments, and deepen as the student deepens. That's the architecture we're building.
Why we started with saxophone
The saxophone is not the easiest instrument to build for. Tone, intonation, and articulation are nuanced in ways that require real pitch analysis — not just note detection. It's also an instrument with a huge range of serious players who've outgrown beginner resources and have no good options between "YouTube tutorials" and "expensive private lessons."
It's also personal: it's the instrument I've been mastering for over 20+ years. I built Praxis Saxophone first because it's a hard, honest test of the platform. If I can build something a serious saxophonist trusts, I can build for every instrument on the same foundation.
What's coming to Praxis
Praxis Saxophone is now in closed beta on iPhone and Android. It includes on-device pitch detection (mic or MIDI wind controller input), the Praxis Coach that adapts to your history, custom backing track generation, progress tracking, and Personal Licks — your own melodic phrases, stored privately on your device.
Praxis for Instructors is the next phase — a platform for music teachers to enroll their students, see real practice data (minutes practiced, scale fluency, intonation trends, weak spots), send tailored assignments, and earn revenue from their studio through the platform. If you teach saxophone and want early access, the closed-beta intake form has an instructor referral option.
What's Next
The next phase is Praxis for Instructors — letting music teachers enroll students, see their practice data in real time, send tailored assignments, and monetize their studio through the platform. We're also exploring on-device coaching to keep your practice fully private, and capabilities to import and practice with your own recordings. Native MIDI wind controller profiles (EWI, Yamaha YDS, AKAI EWI) are on the way. Long term, the original ClefScape vision of real-time, low-latency music collaboration across the platform remains our destination. We don't put dates on things we're not confident about — but we're confident about What's Next.
Privacy is foundational, not a feature
We built Praxis with on-device pitch detection because it's the right default. Your recordings and Personal Licks never leave your device. Short coaching excerpts may travel to our AI backend for conversational context — they are never stored permanently and are never used to train any model. The person behind Praxis
I'm Dolu. I built Praxis.
By day I'm a Lead Software Engineer with a background in cloud infrastructure, AI, neural engineering, and data analytics. By every other waking hour for the last 20+ years, I've been a saxophone player — church services, wedding gigs, and a lot of late nights working through method books, online courses, and occasional in-person lessons trying to actually get better.
Music is what I love doing — full stop. But whether you're aiming for professional fluency or simply serious about mastering your craft, we all hit the same wall: we take a lesson, leave with notes, then spend the next six days practicing without anyone listening to whether we're actually improving. Every tool I tried either graded me against a fixed score or offered generic advice that ignored what I'd just played.
So I built the practice companion I wished I'd had. One that listens. One that tells me specifically that my B5 was 12 cents flat, or that I sped up on the second half. One that pays attention.
